WHAT DOES WELLNESS MEAN?
Wellness is a term that corresponds to the word "well-being" in Turkish. In fact, it represents a “process”. It was first used in the literature by Dr. Halbert Dunn in 1961. Dr. Dunn viewed wellness as a life process for improving and maintaining physical and psychological well-being.
He argues that people need to feel well in physical, psychological and social aspects to increase their quality of life.
The connection between personal development, consciousness, awareness and human health constitutes the basic logic of wellness.
According to this philosophy, individuals need to build a conscious, aware life for the desired development.
HISTORY OF WELLNESS
Wellness is actually a word with very ancient roots but is equally modern. The basic principles of holistic healthy living are seen in almost all ancient civilizations from East to West. The basic principles of wellness are at the root of all ancient medical knowledge.
This health-focused holistic model, which was developed under the leadership of Dr. Dunn, gained visibility in the 1960s and 1970s by thought leaders such as Travis, Ardell, Hettler, etc as well.
Under the name of healthy living movement, wellness also includes personal development, conscious living, fitness, exercise, healthy nutrition, sleep patterns and spiritual practices.
WHAT IS WELLNESS?
Global Wellness Institute defines the concept of wellness as "all the activities that lead holistically to health". These activities include not only maintaining health but also sustaining both physical and spiritual well-being.
According to the definition of the World Health Organization, Wellness is not just about not being sick or weak, but also being in a state of complete physical, spiritual and social well-being.
Wellness also includes conscious and willing decisions made to increase the quality of life and the process of implementing these decisions.
DIMENSIONS OF WELLNESS?
